Joint Statement on Crisis in Ukraine
The American Society of Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (ASTCT), European Society for Blood Marrow Transplantation (EBMT), and Worldwide Network for Blood Marrow Transplantation (WBMT) firmly condemn the war started by Russian military forces in Ukraine. In particular, ASTCT, EBMT, and WBMT request that peace negotiations prioritize the needs of the most vulnerable Ukrainian people. Casualties among innocent civilians increase by the minute, including children. Patients with severe conditions, such as those with cancer or undergoing life-saving transplants, are currently affected by lack of medications and medical supplies, limited ability to travel to hospitals, lack of adequate nutrition. Healthcare providers and hospital staff in Kyiv remain in their hospitals to treat the patients in shelters, while bombs continue to hit the city.

Stem cell transplantation underutilized for acute myeloid leukemia
Utilization of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for acute myeloid leukemia has increased over time but remains far below optimal levels, according to study results presented at ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition.
Tokaz spoke with Healio about the study findings and their potential implications, as well as the importance of expanding use of this curative treatment for AML.

In an interview with HCPLive, Tokaz and Force shared expert insight on their investigation and why this worldwide perspective is crucial to progression of oncology research and treatment.
“There’s a mounting global cancer crisis,” Tokaz explained. “By 2040, new cancer diagnoses are expected to double in regions dominated by low-income countries—which are the region’s least equipped to deal with this pending cancer epidemic, and by 2040, estimates are that there’ll be over 18 million deaths from cancer worldwide.”
